Precedent 3: Breeze House

The Breeze House (2012) by ARTechnic Architects.

Location : Setagaya, Tokyo
Use : Private residence
Structure : Reinforced concrete

I really like this design especially the way in which ARTechnic have been able to design the curvature in the exterior concrete walls. It creates an elegant spectacle whilst creating privacy for the occupants. The lights beneath the curved walls help to emphasise the form of the walls respectively. I have chosen this precedent to begin to look at how they have designed and then constructed these curved concrete walls which are able to stand when its weight is past its centre of gravity. In Breeze (2012) it seems that the walls are reinforced by another concrete slab that are joined to the main dwelling structure.

This is a design solution that I will be able to keep in mind when designing my curved concrete walls.

A closer view of the curvature of the concrete exterior walls.
Horizontal indentations in the reinforced concrete. I presume a design solution in order to help curve the concrete?
